Do you want to know what I love about this passage? I love the fact that Daniel showed such excellence of moral character, and wisdom, that he found favor with the pagan king whom he served. “And the king, when he heard these words, was greatly displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored till the going down of the sun to deliver him.” (Daniel 6:14)

I love that Daniel set such a shining example of what a man of God looked like, that this pagan king was moved to trust in his God. “So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. But the king spoke, saying to Daniel, ‘Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you.’” (Daniel 6:16)

I love that Daniel demonstrated such a godly character, that the pagan king, who had observed Daniel’s piety, knew just what he needed to do on Daniel’s behalf. “Now the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; and no musicians were brought before him. Also his sleep went from him.” (Daniel 6:18)

I believe that God was moved to rescue Daniel not only because of his great faith, but because of the pagan king’s faith and love for Daniel. You see, even in the Old Testament, we see that God moved on behalf of all mankind, drawing them to Himself. This story reminds me of something Jesus said, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” (John 12:32) Because Daniel exalted God faithfully, He drew the pagan king to Himself…

About Maria Elizabeth Ott Tatham

My given name was Elizabeth, but people call me Maria. I’m a writer whose works include a published novel and stories. At my primary website, you’ll find pages about my novel, and a writer’s journal in which I post stories, poetry, images of amazing paintings, Biblical rflections, and more. Also, soon you will be able to read my new novel at The Dragon Crusades, a novel in episodes. In my own country, and all around the world, the days are dark. I understand that this is nothing new, but I believe that the shadows of darkness are quickly lengthening. The Lord Jesus Christ - Yeshuah, God in the flesh, the Savior, the Only Begotten Son of God - declared that He is the Light of the World - and indeed He is! He also told us that we, His disciples, are light. Christian writing can be a lamp in the darkness, shedding His radiance, reflecting His glorious goodness, lighting the way...

  1. I love that you made Cheryl’s comment a post! God bless you and your study of the prophets!

    • Dearest Debbie, your words bring conviction. I have not been as diligent as I should be when approaching this study. Thank you! Study and love of His Word must go beyond my attempts at pleasing presentation. Cheryl is more on fire for the Lord. We must learn from one another – thank you!

I would love to hear from you...
